A 3D printer stand doesn't have to be a standard shelf with a printer placed on top.
Different printers, enclosures and workspaces need different layouts. A compact printer may only need a simple stand, while a larger setup may need multiple levels, filament storage, an enclosure, or additional workspace.
That's where a custom 3D printer stand can make more sense than a generic shelf.
Why Choose a Custom 3D Printer Stand?
A standard stand is designed around a general size. Your printer isn't.
When designing a stand, the important measurements aren't only the printer's width and depth. You may also need to consider:
- Printer height and footprint
- Enclosure dimensions
- Door and panel clearance
- Filament storage
- Additional shelves
- Available floor or desk space
- Other equipment you want to keep nearby
For a multi-printer setup, the layout becomes even more important. An aluminum extrusion rack can also be expanded with additional levels as your setup changes. Aluminum extrusion is already being used for custom printer racks and larger print-farm structures because the frame can be configured around the equipment rather than forcing the equipment to fit a fixed shelf.
Aluminum Extrusion for a 3D Printer Rack
For a custom printer stand, I use modular aluminum extrusion profiles with matching connectors and fasteners.
This makes it possible to create different configurations, including:
- Single printer stands
- Multi-level 3D printer racks
- Printer and storage combinations
- Enclosure stands
- Filament storage racks
- Larger 3D printer workstations
The design can also be adjusted if you change printers or move to a different workspace later.
Design Around Your Printer, Not the Other Way Around
You don't need to start with a finished drawing.
If you already have a printer, send me its model, dimensions, a photo, or a reference stand you like. You can also simply tell me the overall size and layout you want.
I'll create a simple 3D preview based on your requirements before quoting the project.
Wood shelves, acrylic panels and other large panels can be sourced locally. I provide the exact panel dimensions, while HushLume supplies the aluminum frame, connectors and required hardware.
