Most frames press art flat against a wall and call it done. This one suspends it.
The HushLume Industrial Suspension Poster Frame uses steel wire cables to hold the front acrylic panel in tension — creating a visible gap between the artwork and the backing panel that gives the whole piece a floating, three-dimensional quality. It's a small detail that changes how the frame reads in a room entirely.
The Material Foundation
The structural frame is EU-standard 2020 aluminum alloy profile — the same precision-extruded industrial format used across the HushLume lineup. Rigid, lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and visually clean. The aluminum profile has a low visual profile that doesn't compete with the artwork inside it.
The display system uses two 3mm acrylic panels:
- Front panel: Clear acrylic that sits flush against the artwork, protecting it while keeping it fully visible. The 3mm thickness is substantial enough to feel solid without adding visual bulk.
- Back panel: Customizable — semi-transparent or opaque solid color. The back panel choice dramatically changes the character of the display: a clear or light semi-transparent backing keeps things minimal and airy; a dark opaque backing (black, deep navy, forest green) creates contrast that makes the artwork pop.
The steel wire cables bind the two panels together under tension, pulling the front panel slightly away from the back and creating the characteristic floating gap. The cables are visible as a design element — thin, precise, and industrial in character.
The Floating Effect: Why It Works
Traditional frames create a hard border around artwork. The eye sees the frame first, then the art. The suspension frame inverts this: the cables are thin enough to disappear at normal viewing distance, and the floating gap creates a shadow line that draws the eye directly to the artwork itself.
The effect is most pronounced with the right back panel choice. A semi-transparent colored backing adds a subtle wash of color behind the artwork without obscuring it — the light passes through both panels and creates a layered depth that a solid backing can't replicate. An opaque backing creates a clean, defined contrast edge that makes the artwork feel more graphic and intentional.
What to Display
- Art prints and posters: The suspension frame elevates a standard art print into something that looks gallery-quality without the gallery price.
- Photography: Printed photos — especially high-contrast black and white or landscape photography — benefit from the floating presentation.
- Botanical and nature prints: The airy, floating quality of the frame complements botanical illustration and nature photography naturally.
- Typography and quote prints: The industrial frame aesthetic pairs well with bold typographic prints.
- Album artwork: For vinyl collectors, the suspension frame is a natural companion to a vinyl record display — display the record on a stand and the album artwork in a matching frame alongside it.
- Maps and architectural drawings: Technical and cartographic prints look particularly at home in an industrial aluminum frame.
Where to Use It
The Desk Display
A suspension frame on your desk surface works as a rotating art display. Pair it with the rest of your industrial desk setup for a cohesive aesthetic.
The Wall Gallery
Multiple suspension frames arranged in a grid or salon-style gallery wall create a unified look. The consistent aluminum profile and cable hardware tie everything together visually regardless of what's inside each frame.
The Shelf Display
Leaned against the back of a 3-tier display shelf, a suspension frame adds a vertical element that breaks up the horizontal rhythm of shelf objects.
The Bedroom Headboard Wall
A large suspension frame above a bed headboard creates a focal point that's more interesting than a standard framed print. The floating quality of the display suits the bedroom context: it's present without being heavy.
The Home Office Feature Wall
In a study or home office, a suspension frame with a meaningful print adds personality to a wall that might otherwise be blank. The industrial aluminum frame fits naturally in a workspace context.
Suspension Frame vs. Standard Poster Frame
Not sure which frame is right for your artwork? The key difference is the floating effect — the suspension frame creates a visible gap and shadow line between the artwork and the backing, giving it a more three-dimensional, gallery-quality presence. The standard industrial aluminum poster frame sits flat and clean, which suits artwork where you want the frame to disappear and the image to dominate. Both use the same EU 2020 aluminum profile and customizable acrylic back panel.

Care Notes
- Acrylic panels: Clean with a soft microfiber cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Steel wire cables: Wipe with a dry cloth if needed. The cables are tensioned at assembly and should not require adjustment during normal use.
- Aluminum frame: Wipe with a damp cloth. The EU 2020 profile is corrosion-resistant and requires no special maintenance.
